Firmino’s Late Goal For Liverpool Again Shows José Mourinho Needs To Talk To His Defenders

  • Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 last night in an English Premier League match
  • The victory at Anfield for the Reds took them to the top of the English Premier League Table as Spurs slip to second on the log

Right from the start of the match, Liverpool showed their intent that they had to win the game and they achieved their objective.

A little analysis of Tottenham Hotspur’s centre backs performance revealed that the duo of Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld still need to step up their game.

Both the first and second goals scored by Liverpool indicated that Alderweireld’s poor defensive instinct led to the goals.

The first goal by Mohamed Salah hit Alderweireld’s leg, with Dier present, while Roberto Firmino’s late header was as a result of poor aerial marking by Alderweireld, with Harry Kane also doing little to contest the header.

Spurs manager, José Mourinho needs to talk more to his defenders and players to avoid conceding late goals, unnecessary fouls, set paces and to do better defending aerial balls.

In addition, Spurs have themselves to blame for throwing away vital points due to the late goals they concede.

The games against Newcastle United, West Ham United and recently Crystal Palace were thrown away by Mourinho’s boys as they conceded late equalisers.
