- Valentine Ozigbo needs no introduction as far as the political space of Anambra state, Southeast Nigeria is concerned
- The philanthropist is the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming Anambra Governorship Election later this year
During the governorship primaries of the PDP, some aggrieved party members were not happy with the emergence of Valentine Ozigbo as the candidate of the PDP. However, the PDP has stated that Ozigbo won the party’s primary election.
Going forward, there are still many stumbling blocks and hurdles for Ozigbo to deal with, if he has an ambition of succeeding incumbent governor, Dr Willie Obiano.
The current Governor of Anambra state, Dr Willie Obiano is of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), and would surely want the candidate of his party to takeover from where he stopped as far as being the Chief Executive of Anambra state is concerned.
One of the other political parties apart from APGA that would give Ozigbo and PDP a run for their money is the All Progressives Congress (APC). It should be known that the ruling party for over 13 years in Anambra state has been APGA, while both APC and PDP have been playing second fiddle since then.
More so, the people of Anambra state have stuck with APGA and may want to continue with the ruling party in the Southeast state when they, the electorate file out on Election Day to cast their ballot. The only things that could swing the pendulum of victory to the side of Ozigbo would be his manifesto, in-depth campaigns and the bad leadership of the ruling APGA if there is any.
Furthermore, if aggrieved PDP members during the party’s governorship primaries sheathe their swords and support Ozigbo, the coast could be clear for him.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is planning as promised to give Anambra state a free, fair and credible governorship election as APC, APGA and PDP, the three major contenders slug it out to see who produces the next Governor after Dr Willie Obiano leaves office.
